Established in 1951. Inherits the surgical ward of the Workers Hospital, operated from 1936 to 1950. Occurs at the Institute for specialization and development of physitians (ISUL) as Chair of hospital surgery. Later it was transformed into Clinic, respectively - in the Clinic of Abdominal Surgery. In 1984 the hospital was founded the Second Surgical Clinic - for emergency surgery. In 2002, two clinics are united, and their successor is the Clinic of Surgery.

The Clinic is held on the surgery diagnosis, conservative and surgical treatment in emergency and planed surgical conditions in diseases of the organs of the abdominal cavity - gallbladder, biliary system, liver, pancreas, spleen, lower esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small and large intestines, anus and perianal area, retroperitoneum. It also performed plastic surgery on all hernias, diseases of the breast, perineum, etc..

Removal of the gallbladder is done in the traditional and laparoscopic way. Laparoscopic technique is also used in operations on the biliary tract, appendix and on the hernia anterior of the abdominal wall, with internal hernia, in certain diseases of the liver, pancreas, spleen and intestines. Clinic provide operations of all benign diseases - ulcer of stomach and duodenum, chronic pancreatitis, portal hypertension, diverticulosis of the colon, diverticula of the gastrointestinal tract, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Over 50% of surgical interventions are associated with cancer of the colon and rectum, stomach and pancreas, biliary system and liver, the lowest part of the esophagus and the anus. Important is the experience with surgery for hernias and diseases of the appendix in dermoid cysts and diseases of the anus and the area around it (hemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, etc.)..

The clinic accepts patients with acute appendicitis, trapped hernias, intestinal obstruction, a burst ulcer and other emergencies twenty-four-hour period.

Unique in the country are surgeries performed at the clinic in relation to portal hypertension, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, liver and pancreatic resections.

The clinic works with highly competent and experienced surgeons who perform operations in accordance with national and international standards.

Doctors at the clinic have high quality equipment for laparoscopic surgery, for anesthesia and postoperative providing comfort to patients.

Hospital beds in the hospital are 37, 6 of which - in the postoperative ward. Hospital facilities are renovated; it offers modern beds, TV, refrigerator, Internet.

Clinic works on 22 clinical pathways, which contracted with the National Health Care Fund.

Approximately 15% of patients are conducted only diagnostic procedures or treatment with medication, others undergo planed and emergency operations.

Ward for One-day surgery

At the clinic operates the first independent country One-day surgery ward. In it, within 6 to 23 hours to perform surgical treatment of hernias, including postoperative, dermoid cysts and anal diseases, diseases of the breast and skin tumors, cosmetic defects, etc..

The ward has 8 beds in a new building with two separate operating rooms, parking and conditions for waiting relatives.

Unit of Endocrine Surgery

Since February 2009, Clinic of Surgery disclosed Unit of Endocrine Surgery. It performed minimally invasive (bloodless) operations of thyroid gland.

Department of Endocrine Surgery is located in the building of a One-day surgery ward and has two operating rooms equipped with options for endoscopic cervical operations.

Since opening there has been 40 video assisted invasive open thyroid resections with voice nerve monitoring. There are attached two methods of anesthesia: endotracheal and superficial cervical block with intravenous sedation.
